According to legend, one day, a neighbor accidentally dropped a kitchen knife into the well, and from that time on, no stars could be seen.<br>Since the road passed through Gokurakuji Kiridori (Gokurakuji-zaka), the area near the well was crowded with tea stalls during the Meiji era (1868-1912). Although the tea stalls disappeared during the Taisho era (1912-1926), the water from the well was so pure and delicious that it was sold as famous water to passersby until the early Showa era
