
Tachiaraimizu Tachiaraimizu
The sign is hard to see and you may miss it if you are careless, but there is water flowing out of a bamboo tube on the left side of the rock face. This is “Tachiarai Water,” one of the “Five Famous Waters of Kamakura.
It is said that Kajiwara Kageoki, a retainer of Minamoto no Yoritomo, used this spring water to wash his sword after killing Kazusa Hirotsune, another retainer of Minamoto no Yoritomo, who was suspected of rebellion. It is said that Hirotsune’s mansion, the scene of Hirotsune’s execution, was located a short distance away, on a platform near Saburo-no-taki Falls.
